Sun to a Soaking
My Weekend in Southsea – From Sun to a Soaking
Hi all, just a quick catchup as it seems to be ages since I posted something that wasn’t a haiku!
I arrived in Southsea yesterday in readiness for my writing retreat today at a local pavilion by a lake. I checked in and did a recce of the area, in the early evening sunshine. Although the wind was getting up, it was still quite pleasant. The venue for tomorrow was only ten minutes’ walk away, so all good. Had an early night in readiness for tomorrows silence – I say silence – apart from the soft tapping of laptops, and the scrape of a chair leg when a caffeine fix is needed.
Woke this morning to wet wind and everything else the weatherman had foretold. Last night I took a photo from the hotel window of the Spinnaker Tower – well as good as I could with my iphone camera. This morning however, the view from the window was huge droplets and so much mist and low cloud, it was difficult to define anything, apart from the roof tops of the adjoining buildings. As the weather was so inclement, I decided to have breakfast in the hotel.
I sat piling on the calories with an extremely tasty croissant whilst watching other guests come in and out. I felt for them, clearly dressed for holiday, some in flip flops and shorts, others in tee shirts and summer skirts – women of course. I wonder what they will be doing today, whilst I was in the dry writing something or another.
Gosh I haven’t sat as quiet as this since my Greek Lit exam back in 2012!
I checked out, walked out and whoosh!! I replaced the brolly, having fought with bending spokes! I was only wearing a thin summer jacket – luckily it has a hood, of sorts. Wheeling my case, back pack astride my shoulders and holding my hood up, off I turned into the unkind weather.
After a ten minute walk, which seemed like an age, I found the venue. I was greeted by the smiling face of Poppy, the organiser, who promptly took my dripping coat and dispensed of it.
I am now seated comfortably with eight other ladies – who like me – are tapping away at their masterpieces to be!

Wordless Wednesday
I find ‘Wordless Wednesday’ difficult – there is so much I could write about this pic.
I would call it, ‘Patience in the Heat’
